Glastonbury, The Isle of Wight Festival and The Big Chill festival are some of the best music festivals the UK has on offer. As I helped a colleague sort out some last minute shopping for his wife as she got ready to head off to The Isle of Wight festival I felt inspired to share my top festival tips.
You’ve got the perfect outfit, the ubiquitous cowboy hat, funky wellies, an easy to assemble pop up tent and, most importantly, your tickets to one of the numerous music festivals being held this summer but don’t forget the smaller essentials that will make the weekend much more enjoyable.
Sunscreen
Yes it’s not a sure fire thing that the weather will be hot and sunny whilst you’re out camping but if you’re in the open for several hours you can still get burnt so make sure to take along some protection for your skin.
Wet Wipes
Unless you fancy queuing for hours for a shower that has been used by heaven knows how many others you’ve probably decided to slum it for a couple of days. To prevent your friends keeping a wide berth then wet wipes are vital. Use them to wipe down your boots too at the end of the day.
Makeup
Now girls to be honest the most amount of makeup you really need is lip gloss and some tinted moisturiser, hide your eyes behind sunnies and if you really can’t stand to go without mascara go get your eyelashes tinted before you head off.
Dry Shampoo
Now again showers are a scarce thing so your hair will have to go unwashed for several days but fear not the thought of greasy smelly hair, get hold of some dry hair shampoo available in spray can or powder versions. Simply apply to your hair, rub in and brush out to refresh your hair for another day. If it gets really bad tie it all up and hide under your hat.
Torches
Don’t end up wandering around the campsite at night trying desperately to keep an eye out for guy ropes get a small keyring style torch or download a flashlight app for your mobile.
Power Chargers
If you’re taking your mobile phone with you then you’ll need somewhere to charge it. You might be lucky enough to go to a festival complete with mobile charging tents, like Orange supply at Glastonbury. If not then there are several handy pocket sized chargers and solar devices you can buy.
Waterproofs
Unless you’re heading to a far flung festival you are likely to encounter rain in the majority of the UK based festivals. Take cover with a pac a mac, most are available in their own carry bag and are far removed from the old fashioned green macs with brightly coloured waterproofs in varying patterns offered now.
Mouthwash
It’s unlikely you’re going to have water on hand so the next best option to clean your teeth is to use mouthwash with your toothbrush. Trust me, your friends will love you for using it.
Painkillers
Last but not least there is every chance that one or more mornings you might awake with a headache (not from alcohol of course) so be prepared and grab some headache tablets and if you’re worried about the food, some anti diarrhoea tablets too.
